The Printed Word and a Doctor's Joke

thankful thinking day 29

Man has written all kinds of words. Heavens knows this Groovy has written her share. But all is meaningless if not based in Truth. And for that, I am grateful for the inventor of the Gutenberg printing press who made the Truth of God's Word available to all through mass printing of the Bible. I wonder what he would think of the internet?

Lord, I am thankful for your printed Word. I am thankful for the many books that have been published and the joy of reading.

"For the Lord gives wisdom....from Him come knowledge and understanding...wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul." (Proverbs 2:6,10)

day 29 postcript

I am thankful that Mom had only a nightmare last night. If you follow my blog you know that my 92-year-old mother has a heart condition that prompts middle-of-the-night visits to the ER. So many visits, in fact, that the staff calls her by name when she walks in the door and they catch up on what she has been doing since the last time she "visited" them.

After two weeks of back pain and breathing discomfort, we were awakened at 1:00am to her time-to-visit-the-ER phone call. As she was going through the routine tests for heart attack, she became more coherent on what she was experiencing before she called. She had been dreaming that her room was on fire and someone was yelling "fire! fire! get up!" Needless to say, when she woke up her heart was racing, she was extremely disoriented and she was truly terrified. Because of her heart history, she thought this was the "big one."

So the ER doctor, who has seen her on several of her past visits, jokingly told Mom that they had to stop meeting like this and they should just go out on a regular date. Her reply, "No way, release me from the ER and let me go home!!!"

Lord God, thank you for nightmares not heart attacks and for doctors who can joke with Mom and not just poke her with instruments.
