Gratitude for a New Attitude

thankful thinking day 30

When I started this month of thankful thinking, I thought it would be a struggle to come up with something new every day, but the longer I became engaged in the habit of thankful thinking the more I realized just how much I have to be thankful for. The key was looking at the small things ~ a stop-and-smell-the-roses mentality.

Simple thanks for simple pleasures. Gratitude for a new attitude.

Thank You, Lord God, for my new habit of thankful thinking. I know I will need to lean on You to keep my attitude of gratitude flourishing in my heart, not to get lost again in the discontentment that hangs around my back door.

(Blogmeister's note: A month of thankful thinking was inspired by the Thanksgiving celebration. It seems fitting that a month of thankfulness should be followed by a month of giving. Thanks---giving! In December I'm determined to focus on the pleasure of giving instead of the"me"-ness of getting.)

The Printed Word and a Doctor's Joke

thankful thinking day 29

Man has written all kinds of words. Heavens knows this Groovy has written her share. But all is meaningless if not based in Truth. And for that, I am grateful for the inventor of the Gutenberg printing press who made the Truth of God's Word available to all through mass printing of the Bible. I wonder what he would think of the internet?

Lord, I am thankful for your printed Word. I am thankful for the many books that have been published and the joy of reading.

"For the Lord gives wisdom....from Him come knowledge and understanding...wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul." (Proverbs 2:6,10)

day 29 postcript

I am thankful that Mom had only a nightmare last night. If you follow my blog you know that my 92-year-old mother has a heart condition that prompts middle-of-the-night visits to the ER. So many visits, in fact, that the staff calls her by name when she walks in the door and they catch up on what she has been doing since the last time she "visited" them.

After two weeks of back pain and breathing discomfort, we were awakened at 1:00am to her time-to-visit-the-ER phone call. As she was going through the routine tests for heart attack, she became more coherent on what she was experiencing before she called. She had been dreaming that her room was on fire and someone was yelling "fire! fire! get up!" Needless to say, when she woke up her heart was racing, she was extremely disoriented and she was truly terrified. Because of her heart history, she thought this was the "big one."

So the ER doctor, who has seen her on several of her past visits, jokingly told Mom that they had to stop meeting like this and they should just go out on a regular date. Her reply, "No way, release me from the ER and let me go home!!!"

Lord God, thank you for nightmares not heart attacks and for doctors who can joke with Mom and not just poke her with instruments.

Oxygen

thankful thinking day 28

I am thankful for the very air I breathe. We don't think about it much as we go about our daily routine, but with every breath, we have life.

Lord God, thank You for the routine beating of my heart, for the oxygen that fills my lungs, for the sweet gift of life.

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." (Psalm 150:6)

Thanksgiving and Praise

thankful thinking day 27

Everything belongs to God and I am thankful for what He has allowed me to call "mine."

On this day of Thanksgiving celebration, I thank You Lord God for the sweetness of life, the beauty of this earth, the joy of relationships. But all these pale by comparison to my thankfulness for your unconditional love and redeeming salvation.

"Praise the Lord.
How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him....
Sing to God with thanksgiving" (Psalm 147)

Toasty Warm on a Cold Morning

thankful thinking day 26

I am thankful for my warm, blue, cozy bathrobe on a cold morning. And I am thankful for the Groovy sister who gave it to me. Indeed, I am thankful for all the Groovies in my life.

Lord, once again, I thank You for the simple pleasures in life. I don't ever want to take for granted the small things because they are everywhere, and You intended for us to find joy in all things.

"He has shown you great kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; He provides you with plenty of food and fills your heart with joy." (Acts 14:17)

Music to My Ears

thankful thinking day 25

Music.
It rocks.
It's kickin'.
It's sweet.
It's low.
It's funky.
It swings.
It fills my soul.

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of music, for the gift of ears to hear, and for the gift of feet to dance and groove.

"(King) David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals." (1 Chronicles 15:16)

"Let us praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and harp." (Psalm 149:3)

Community Spirit and Heavenly Love

thankful thinking day 24

Over the weekend, our old-fashioned downtown hosted a holiday open house. It was a welcomed sight in these troubled economic times. The stores were decorated for Christmas and the community came out to stroll Main Street, enjoy tasty treats, and ooh and aah over the splendid displays. The streets were filled with families and couples and teenagers, with strollers and dogs. Neighbors shouted out a "hello" and the balloon man made whimsical contraptions for the kids. The season of universal love is coming. It felt good.

Lord God, thank You for the simple joys of life. For love, for friends, for community. Thank You for Your gift of love in Christ Jesus. His birthday celebration is coming soon and the occasion spreads joy and good cheer. It's a gift I cling to throughout the year.

" For unto us a child is born... and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)

Sleep

thankful thinking day 23

Sleep. Precious sleep. Eight hours straight with no interruptions or wide-awake tossing and turning. I've blogged before about how thankful I am for sleep. It's something I used to take for granted. It's something I now am grateful for when it comes.

Funny how our perspectives change as our circumstances change. I would sincerely like to be able to say that I am not buffeted by circumstances because God is my pilot, but I really do get thrown out of whack when sleep refuses to come.

Lord, I am thankful that Your hand made me. I know that Your plan is divine and perfect and holy. And I know that Your ways are not my ways so I do not always understand the "why" of things. I do know that if I keep my eyes on You, I will not be tossed around with uncertainty, but in my humanness I sometimes fail to keep that perspective. Thank You for lovingly listening to my plight. It makes me feel better. (P.S. thanks for that great night's sleep!)

"I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is my right hand, I will not be shaken." (Psalm 16:8)

A Crown of Splendor

thankful thinking day 22

I am sooooooooooo thankful for hair dye. Whether it comes from the drug store or a fancy hair salon, I am a big fan of color-in-a-box, permanent or otherwise. Let's face it, women have been coloring their hair since the beginning of time because it makes us feel good. I am absolutely convinced that even Eve did it. After all, if she can mess around with that apple, she was certainly open to changing it up with her hair.

Lord, You tell us not to get caught up in, or to take our self-worth from how we look, but You also know the desires of a woman's heart. T
hank You, for understanding the indulgences of feminine needs and for the invention of hair color. Someday, I hope to get past this vanity and see gray hair the way you intended it to be seen.

"Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life." (Proverbs 16"31)

The Connected Life

thankful thinking day 21

I participated in a conference call yesterday that welcomed participants from all over the U.S. and as far away as South Africa. Technology is absolutely brilliant. Through the use of cell phones, voice-over-internet protocol, email, webinars, social networking, YouTube and all the rest, we are able to connect in ways never before thought possible.

This electronic connection is at the same time welcoming as it is off-putting. Welcoming because it opens our doors well beyond our physical reach, and off-putting because it can be used in lieu of face-to-face connections.

Lord, thank You for opening up my world to friendships and connections literally all over this planet. Whatever the method, I desire to create connections that are authentic and that glorify You.

(She) who refreshes others will (herself) be refreshed." (Proverbs 11:25b)

A Two-Way Street

thankful thinking day 20

I've been thinking about the abundance in my life. That's what a month of thankful thinking will do for you. It makes you think daily about what you have and how richly you have been blessed no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the unfilled promises, wants or needs.

I've been thinking about the people in my life. Close ties and mere acquaintances. Daily I have a choice to be touched by them and to touch back. Daily I have a choice to give love and to receive love. It's a two-way street. It's not a straight and narrow path but a varied pathway that's sometimes smooth and inviting, and sometimes rocky and rough. I am thankful to be traveling on this street.

Lord, thank You for the gift of people in my life. My husband, family, friends, acquaintances and even the strangers who cross my path. And while I may not always like the way we interact, I thank You for the opportunity to learn from each encounter so that my relationship GPS will become more founded in grace and love.

" God is love...We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:16b, 19)

In Praise of Freedom

thankful thinking day 19

I am overwhelmed with an intense sadness for the victims of worldwide slavery (both work-related and sexual) and with anger towards the perpetrators. But it is the victims for whom I am asking your help today. I cannot even begin to imagine the world in which they live but I can imagine it's a living hell. And the sad part, as with many victims, they end up back in the very system that suppressed them --- because of drugs, because of fear of retribution, because of lack of a safe place to go and a means to make a living.

So I am asking for three things from you:
  1. I am asking that you get on bended knee and pray to God our Father for their physical, emotional and spiritual safety.
  2. I am asking you to raise your awareness to the $92billion dollar trafficking industry that enslaves 27 million people worldwide of which 2 million are children. www.ijm.org
  3. I am asking that you forward this blog along to people you know who would care enough to pray, too.
Lord God, I am thankful for the freedom you have granted me in Christ. And I thank you for the lifestyle that I enjoy living in the United States of America. But Lord, my thankfulness is tinged with sadness and anger for those who neither know freedom in Christ, nor know freedom on earth among their fellow man. I am thankful that You are a God of compassion and burn with righteous indignation against those who would perpetrate injustice against others.

"In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil. (Psalm 5:3-4)

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises...His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him, he sneers at all his enemies. (Psalm 10)

But the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming. (Psalm 37:13)

Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? (psalm 94:16)

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 82:3-4)

(God) will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy...and save them from oppression and violence, (for they) are precious to Him. (Psalm 72:12-14)

Once Again a New Day

thankful thinking day 18

I awoke early this morning to one of the most beautiful, magical and yet, daily spectacles in nature. I awoke to pre-dawn, just before sunrise. The black of the evening sky was already turning to deep blue and the slightest glow sat on the horizon. I walked outside to breathe in the fresh dewy air and feel the start of a new day on my face. And as I watched in thankful wonder, the sun rose from its slumber to once again to spread light and warmth to my part of the world.

And behind me, in the quickly fading evening sky, shone a full moon in all it glorious splendor. Nature's bookends. The sun before me and the moon behind me. Birds singing the promise of a new day.

Lord, thank You for the daily gift of new beginnings. While I may not watch the sun rise over the front range of the Rockies like my dear friend, Lorri, I am grateful to watch it rise over my "mountain" of rooftops. Thank You for the empty canvas of a new day; for the possibilities that each day offers.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands....In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other." (Psalm 19:1,4-6)

For all of you who have told me that you can't post a comment on my blog, I have changed the comment settings. So go ahead, make a comment!

After-Vacation Vacation

thankful thinking day 17

I figured out how to beat the after-vacation-blues -- go on an after-vacation vacation. Really ~ it works! My husband spent a week in Arizona and the day after we got back we headed up to Napa for a day enjoying the wine country and lovely autumn colors. It's a delightful way to gradually re-enter the "real world" of responsibilities and other yucky stuff. Try it.

Lord, thank You for the gift of time ~ the time to slip away from the "every day" world and just play. It's good for my soul, puts a smile on my face and I swear it makes my skin glow.

"By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy..." (Genesis 2:2-3)

Mystery of Missing Socks Solved

thankful thinking day 16

My husband solved the mystery of where socks disappear to when they leave our feet and enter the laundry room. We always wondered how a pair of perfectly matched socks could separate, and worse yet, divorce and never be paired again.

As my husband was searching for something under our bed, he made the startling discovery of where these divorced socks go. Our floor is tile not carpet, which makes it all the easier to see the dust bunnies go scampering across the bedroom. And they love to scamper right under our bed where we don't vacuum very often.

You can imagine my husband's shock and dismay when he looked under the bed, and there amidst the dust bunnies, lay lint. Yes, lint. It seems that these poor socks that choose to divorce their mate, end up broken and unraveled. It seems that the real world away from the cozy nest of the sock drawer is just too much for them to handle and they just fall apart from despair. A moment of silence for these poor, shattered creatures.

Lord, I have experienced the pain of divorce and I am thankful that you have faithfully restored my shattered life with a renewed hope in the special bond that You created in marriage.

"Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." (Mark 10:9)

Yes

thankful thinking day 15

I am on my knees today in gratitude for God's incomprehensible yes in His Son, Christ Jesus.

Lord God, Maker of heaven and earth, the Alpha and Omega, the Ruler and Father of mankind, thank You for saying "yes" to my salvation through Your Son, Christ Jesus. Your mercy and grace are offered to everyone, but today I am thanking You specifically for the portion that You have poured onto me.

"as surely as God is faithful...in (Christ) it has always been "yes." For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "yes" in Christ." (2 Corinthians 1:18-22)

Faithfulness

thankful thinking day 14

This morning as I sat in my chair, the sun streamed through the window, the sky glowed bright blue and the birdies flew by. Despite the circumstance of man and the turmoil we cause ourselves, God faithfully sends the sun and the sky and the birds as He has done daily in the past and will continue to do in the future. It was so reassuring to know that God was, is and is to be. That He was, is and is to be in control. That He faithfully, lovingly holds my life in His hands.

Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. You are dependable. You are trustworthy. You endure.

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23)

The Glory of Nature

thankful thinking day 13

I am thankful that the beautiful valley I live in still has verdant open fields, and is surrounded by hills green with great oaks and gold with elegant grasses.

Thank You, Lord God, for the beauty of your creation.

Proverbs 31 Woman I'm Not

thankful thinking day 12

Oh boy, I am so thankful for dust on the top of someone else's bathroom baseboards. Yes, I confess, I contemplate baseboards when visiting my guest's facilities.

Oh Lord, thank You that I am not expected to be perfect ~ and that others around me are not perfect either. Thank You for cherishing us anyway.

"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" (1 John 3:1)

Honor, Trust and Expectations

thankful thinking day 9

My Dad never talked about World War II. Oh we got a couple of stories about short-sheeting beds and tank races that consumed 3 gallons to the mile, but we never heard about the war itself. So I was surprised today when Mom shared the one and only story Dad ever told her about the action he saw. (Now mind you, this is coming from a 92-year old woman so she may be having selective memory, and then again, maybe not.)

Dad was a young Army officer with 200 men in his unit. He was ordered by his commanding officer to take over a small town in Germany. It would have meant sending them down a narrow pathway that was strewn with hostile gunfire. My Dad sent a small scouting party out who reported what they saw. Dad sent a second party out who confirmed the first report. Dad then told his commanding officer that there was no way he was going to lead his men into wholesale slaughter.

My Dad was like that. He stood for his men and his men stood for him. They trusted him because he was trustworthy. He knew their very lives were in his hands.

Lord, on this Veteran's Day, I thank You for the man of honor that he was. I thank You that he expected no more or less of others than he expected of himself. I thank You that he was a very good Dad.

Lord, I also thank You that You are a very good Father who knows that my very life is in Your hands.

"... the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly." (Proverb 2:6-7)

Change I Can Count On

thankful thinking day 10

I am thankful for the flight of geese. Their grace, their beauty, their teamwork is a thing of beauty. My spirits lift and my heart sings when a flock darkens the sky overhead.

Thank You, Lord, for the changes I can count on like the migrating geese, autumn leaves and rain turned to snow...And thank You, Lord, for being the omnipresent, omnipotent God that I can count on not to change.

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:13)

Bounty of the Land

thankful thinking day 9

I am thankful for farmers' markets. Our city hosts one every Saturday, year round, rain or shine. I'm like a kid in the candy store as I go from booth to booth tasting the samples and filling my basket. The colors are intoxicating, the smells heavenly, the tastes divine.

I respect those who work the land. It's an admirable profession. There's something about getting your hands in the dark, rich soil; something about placing a seed of promise in the ground, tending to it and being rewarded at the end of its journey.

Lord God, thank You for the bounty of the harvest. You are a gracious God.

"And then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us." (Psalm 67:6)

Marriage Blessings

thankful thinking day 8

I am thankful that God is in the details of our marriages. If we allow Him, He will cause wounds to be healed and bonds to flourish. One of our Groovies recently celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary and I want to share her words of praise.

"Many of you know that (we) are high school sweethearts. Many people said that we would not make it. We got married right away right out of high school with our first child on the way and on our way to college...Along this path, God got a hold of us and changed our lives for Him. He is the One who has enabled us over all these years to stay committed to one another, to compromise and make sacrifices for one another, and to keep Christ at the center of our lives...He fills our deepest needs and spurs us on to become all that He created us to be....We started out young and naive, but in love. Within that young love, somehow God was able to teach our hearts the commitment of true love....We want to thank God for not giving up on us through the tough times and for all the blessings He gives." (Kelley)

Lord, thank You for being a God of love. Thank You for getting in the middle of the messy details of our lives because we know that without Your presence, love becomes self-centered and shallow. And while we our love for our mates is not the perfect, unconditional love that You show for us, it is made all the sweeter and stronger by Your presence.

"
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." (1 Corinthians 13)

Big Birds in the Sky

thankful thinking day 7

I am thankful for big silver birds that whisk me to and from my desired destinations. Airport security might be a nightmare, seating accommodations uncomfortable, and the price no longer a bargain, but the speed with which I can travel is a pure delight ~ and I delight in it often.

This week my husband and I are joining my side of the family for our early Thanksgiving celebration. It's low key. We all show up. Spend 48 to 72 hours lovingly harassing each other and having a great time. And oh, we do get around to doing a big dinner but it's whatever we decide to do at the time. All fun, no pressure.

Lord, thank You for the invention of the airplane, particularly the jet engine.

"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles..." (Isaiah 40:31)

Rain Rain Come Again

thankful thinking day 6

We had some rain the other day. We really need it. In fact, we need a lot of good old-fashioned thunder and lightning downpours this season.

Lord, I am thankful for the life-giving rain that falls from your heavens. I am even more thankful for the life-giving water of redemption and salvation through your Son, Christ Jesus.

"Jesus (said), 'If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water...whoever drinks the water I give (her) will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give (her) will become in (her) a spring of water welling up to eternal life.' " (John 4:10-13)

And the Winner Is

thankful thinking day 5

Today I am doubly thankful.

#1. The campaign rhetoric, the personal barbs and insults, the candidates' promises and lies are over for another four years.

Thank You, Lord, for the end to another presidential campaign. Thank You Lord for the privilege of living in a country that values the independent voice through the democratic process. Thank You Lord for Your faithfulness for it is really You who is in control.

"Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing... Blessed is he whose help...(and) whose hope is in the Lord God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them...The Lord reigns forever." (Psalm 147)

#2. Today is another celebration ~ a celebration of birth. Today is my husband's birthday. I am thankful for his 65 years. I am thankful that he is a godly man. I am thankful for his love and presence in my life.

Lord, thank You for this wonderful man. Thank You for your celestial matchmaking that brought us together.

"
For You created my inmost being;Yyou knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." (Psalm 139)

God Bless America

thankful thinking day 4

Lord, I am thankful and grateful for my freedom to vote in today's presidential election. I am thankful for the peace in knowing that whatever the outcome, You are in control. Help me to keep that perspective if my candidate loses because you have said:

"Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." (Titus 3:1-2)

Back to the Driveway

thankful thinking day 3

I know I said I wasn't going to write about the driveway/front yard destruction/reconstruction project again until next spring when phase two begins ~ but ~

I just had to share the aesthetics of driving on a driveway that has been paved instead of washed over with concrete. I am here to tell you that I am transported back to Italy every time I pull my car onto my new driveway. The bumpty-bump sound of the tires over the pavers takes me right back to the magnificent, old cobble stone streets of old-town Rome. I am instantly transported to a cozy outside cafe where I am sitting under an umbrella enjoying tea and treats while I watch the world go by.

And go by it does. I am a major people watcher. Oh yes. I find people fascinating.

But back to the driveway. Sometimes I become someone else when I drive on my pavers. I become the stunning, young Italian woman who drove by us one afternoon as we sat watching the world go by. If you have been in old-town Rome, you know that the sidewalk and the street in some areas are one, so vehicles and people share the same space. Well this young woman drives by sitting as pretty as you please atop a Vespa motor scooter wearing a pencil straight skirt, ruffled silken blouse, to-die-for accessories, killer high heels and carrying her brief case. Needless to say, every head, male and female, turned and watched her go by.

And then just like in the Breck hair commercials, she parks the scooter, takes off her helmet and shakes out her glorious mane of hair. Yep, you could hear an audible sigh of admiration from everyone at that little outside cafe.

So, truth be known, when I pull onto my pavers, I am transported back to that moment in Italy and I become the young Italian woman on my Vespa scooter.

Lord, I am thankful for the simple pleasure of my imagination.

"A merry heart does good, like medicine.." (Proverbs 17:22)

G-Strings Revisited

thankful thinking day 2

You may remember my 7/22/08 post on the G-string controversy in Norway. To quickly recap, the Norwegians were asked whether it was appropriate for an 8 year old to wear a G-string.

Well, I'm going one better. Is it appropriate for a dog to wear a G-string? And inquiring minds further want to know if it's appropriate for the dog's owners to put their G-string wearing dog to work during these tough economic times?

Okay, catch your breath. I know that this is an ethical, intellectual and socially acceptable stretch, but there really is a perfectly good reason why a dog would be wearing a G-string. You see, one of our Groovy Tuesdays has a beloved but confused pet that has been, well, peeing in the house. Not often, mind you, but certainly enough to cause a stink (play on words, sorry).

So while on vacation in a desert town, the owners discovered a solution for their housebound dog. It seems that dogs don't like to pee on themselves. So, wearing a G-string will discourage them from peeing in inappropriate places. Yep, nothing irritates a dog more than a wet G-string.

Okay, so how the lovely citizens of this desert outpost came to this conclusion ~ well, I don't want to even venture a guess. Maybe the excessive heat and sunshine fried their brain cells and their short-circuited wires had to find new thought patterns. Because believe me, this is truly thinking outside the box!!!

As for putting this G-string wearing dog to work ~ that might take a little more explaining to the PETA people. It seems that this dog reminded someone of a recent trip to Las Vegas because when the dog trotted by, it was suddenly sporting a dollar bill under the string. Guys being guys, a couple more dollars sprouted and this dog was off and running to a new career.

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of laughter at everyday things and for someone's nutty ability to think outside the box.

"There is a time for everything ... time to weep and a time to laugh." (Ecc 3:1,4)

Shall We Dance?

thankful thinking day 1

I've decided this month ~ the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving ~ that I would try to post a daily prayer of thanks. While that sounds easy, some days I'm feeling more grouchy or discontent than thankful. So I want to create a new habit. A habit of thankful thinking.

Lord, thank You for the dancing leaves of autumn. As I was driving today, I was surrounded by swirling leaves that floated through the air and tap danced down the street. It was a joyful sight and made me smile. It made me want to get out of the car and dance along with them. Ah, the joys and gifts of autumn. Thank You, Lord, for the gloriously painted leaves

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hand." (Psalm 19:1)
