Go Green

road trip interrupted

Posts about my recent trip to Paris are being sidelined today for comments about the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Lake Tahoe area. Yep, my husband and I are skiing again, and the mountains never fail to elicit my awe and admiration for their incredible beauty. It sounds cliche but I really do feel a closeness to God when I'm in His creation, and particularly when I'm on a snow covered hillside under a brilliant blue and cloudless sky.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. (Psalm 19:1)

It really is breath taking to look out over the Sierras to Lake Tahoe down below. It is a gem in the truest sense of the word, year round. Getting out in nature has a way of calming my soul and giving me space to be. It helps me gain perspective on things.

O Lord, our Lord how majestic is your name in all the earth!...

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You care for him? You made him a little lower than heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; and You put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swims the paths of the sea.
(Psalm 8)

The Lord has entrusted us with His creation. It's not just enough to revel in its beauty and live off the land. It's also our responsibility to be mindful of our responsibilities for its care.

Hmm, I think this blog post just morphed into a commercial for the "go green movement."
