I've blogged about my mom's shopping habit before. I think I've finally come to understand her obsession with it. I've realized for quite a while that it's a sport to her, but I had the wrong sport analogy in mind. I had likened it to a big-game hunter. The thrill of the hunt is just as rewarding as the actual "kill" and the subsequent hanging of the trophy on the wall.
However, I had an epiphany after our recent marathon shopping session, after which I had to return everything she bought (happens most of the time). I realized it's more like fishing to her. She loves being in the boat. She loves casting her line. She even loves catching the fish ~ most of which she lets off the hook and throws back in. After all, there are size limits.
