I love road trips. They get me out of my daily surroundings. Out of my familiar routine, I tend to see things around me differently, even if they are not all that different.

When I drove to the mountains at the beginning of the week, the flat lands were verdant green and in bloom. The flowers were ~ and are ~ a welcome sight for winter weary eyes. Ha, but winter was not yet done!

As we headed up the mountains, it began to rain which turned to sleet which turned to snow. Lots of snow. Almost 40 inches had already fallen over the course of a couple of days and it was still coming down.

Now I can't lie to you and say we were bummed. Heck no! We're skiers! To us, snow is white gold. But this time of year snow can be counted on to morph quickly from the light, fluffy stuff to the heavy, compacted and increasingly melting stuff. Over the course of the week goggles got exchanged for sunglasses and suntan lotion. Heavy jackets were cast down for stylish windbreakers. Oh yes, the bliss of Spring skiing had arrived!

Yet, as wonderful as it was, my breath was once again taken away by the sweet, sweet beauty of Spring in the flat lands on our return trip. Even the lavender and daisies at Starbucks took on a magical charm.
