I'm leaving for a few days of desert time with friends. I never thought I would develop such a passion for the desert. Not all deserts. l must admit the scenery on I-10 between LA and Phoenix is kinda ugly. But I fell in love with the Southwest desert when I took the time to slow down and take an intimate look at it. And oh, what sites it revealed to me!
I am particularly enamored with the view in the springtime. It amazes me how life patiently waits for renewing water and then bursts forth in a display of unexpected beauty.
I am challenged by the desert. It gives me the space to breathe, to contemplate, to meditate. I feel freedom in its open spaces yet know this is an illusion if I do not come prepared to meet the desert on its own terms.
I am excited by the opportunity to capture its essence on film. The photographs never fully reveal the desert's charms ~ and dangers ~ but merely enhance the memory of my time there. I'll share a few on Monday when I get back.
