I was sitting in our car waiting for my husband, when I spied two beautifully wrapped gifts in the doorway next to me.
I was intrigued. Who left these lovely treasures? Who were they for? Why were they just left there rather than delivered to their intended recipient? Would they be stolen before they reached their rightful owner? Were they intended for more than one person? I was enchanted by the endless possibilities to this delightful mystery. As I pondered over the various scenarios, the gifts themselves grabbed my attention.
They really were elegant. I couldn't decide if they were two floral displays or elaborate camouflage for the real gifts beneath. I thought of the creative person who designed and assembled them. I imagined a great deal of care, tenderness and even love went into their making. I wondered what the occasion was and of the connection between the giver and recipient.
I smiled as my mind wandered to a vision of two angels depositing their heavenly treasures on this earthly doorstep. I thought of God's grace, compassion, love and forgiveness being wrapped up in one, and His offer of salvation in the other. Both for the taking.
My reverie was interrupted by a young man who walked by, stopped, swooped down and plucked one of the gifts from its resting place. I couldn't decide if he was stealing or moving it along as intended. But suddenly that thought didn't matter anymore as I envisioned God smiling upon this young man, pleased that one of His gifts was chosen and would soon be a blessing.
I was eager to see what would happen to the second gift, but my husband returned and we drove off. I am certain that it, too, landed in the hands intended by God and someone else was equally blessed.
