Have it Your Way

A big social event of my year is coming up in a couple of weeks ~ a wedding.  Not just any wedding but the wedding of one of our Groovy's kids ~ and we are going to party like it's 1999.  Of course, all the Groovies are pondering what we are going to wear, not that anyone other than ourselves and our husbands are going to notice, but we do like a new party dress now and again.  We're even heading to SF today to shop.  Yep, taking BART, doing the lunch thing and getting down with the "big league" shopping.

I might not find a thing so it's always good to have a back-up dress.  I found my back-up last weekend at the big Macy's sale.  Oh yeah.  On sale, on sale, like they practically gave the dress away.  It's a "happy" dress and looks good on me.  There is the slight detail of having to have the back altered.  I have a small back myself so I often have to have a bodice tailored.  So when I tried on this dress, I thought, "hmmm, a bit poofy in the back but the seamstress will work her magic."

Since then, I made a return trip to Macy's for a second back-up dress.  I know, very atypical for me, but remember, this is one of my big social events of the year.  I found one.  Very different but heck, I like choices.   I'm just not totally convinced this is the one.

Just to make sure I really had a back-up dress, I decided to try them both on again last night and let my husband make the call.  On my first back-up dress,  I warned him that the back was a bit poofy but that would be resolved.  He pronounced me "cute."  The second back-up might have a wee bit of a cleavage issue but he decided I was "sexy."  Okay cute or sexy, I will take either one.

Except I must have tried both dresses on at least twice for him.  As I was taking the cute dress off for the third time since buying it, I noticed ~ for the first time ~ that the tags were in the front of the dress.  I'm thinking, "Why would anyone design a dress with the tags in the front?'  Then it dawned on me ~ I had the dress on backwards.  All that poofy material in the back?  It was really the front and where my, ahem, breasts are supposed to go.

Okay, so here's what threw me off balance.  The zipper, it turns out, belongs in the front.  You can understand my mistake in putting the dress on backwards.  Who puts a zipper in the front?  I thought the zipper was a bit large but since it was going to be in the back, I wasn't hung up about it.  Now I realize that the zipper was large because it was part of the front design.

I don't know what horrified me more, the thought that I was wearing the dress backwards or that the big 'ole zipper belonged in the front.  In either case, my husband and I agreed we liked the dress on me better backwards than forwards, so if the seamstress can work her magic, I'm keeping the cute dress and wearing it backwards, even if I don't wear it to the wedding.

What I really think I need is to find a dress in San Francisco even thought I still have the back-up sexy dress!  In the meantime, I posted photos of the front and back of the cute dress so you can see what I mean about the front-back conundrum.
