Celebrating Despite Unbearable Disruptions

Lessons from the Kitchen

I was going to write something today about one more choice we have to make ~ paint color for the walls, but it seems so frivolous in light of the anniversary we are honoring.  It's not a happy celebration.  It's a sober reminder of the tragic events that happened 9 years ago as misguided zealots attacked our country out of hatred and perhaps even jealously.

Thousands of innocent Americans lost their lives that day in an unfathomable act of cold-blooded, premeditated murder.  And our entire country lost its sense of sense of security as our borders were penetrated by sky-born enemies.  Even worse, we lost "normal."  The life that we cherished, defended and worked hard for was forever tainted as we struggled, and continue to struggle, to regain footing on solid ground.

I could mourn that day but as I sit here in contemplation, I don't want to re-live my anger, frustration, outrage, fear, judgment and vengeful thoughts. No, this is not a time for name-calling or partisan politics or narrow thinking.  Instead,  I want to celebrate freedom.   I want to celebrate hope.  I want to celebrate everyday life.

It takes boldness to continue living despite the sometimes unbearable disruptions of life.  And in that regard, I will be so bold as to blog about paint color.  Honeywheat? Suntan yellow?  Buttercream?

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God... For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land... Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him...You (Lord) are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word... Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. (Psalm 42:11, 37:9, 62:5, 119:114, 31:24)
