Lessons from the Kitchen
While taking my morning walk I hit my Zen spot over the kitchen. After twisting and turning a zillion different back splash, tile, counter top and paint options over and over in my mind; after fretting and fussing about the money being spent; I am now okay with the entire process and the final outcome.
I have to confess I didn't reach this spot on my own. I had help from a friend. As I was sharing my non-Zen feelings with her, she listened and understood. She understood not just the process and concerns, but she understood me.
She reminded me that my husband and I love to have people over to our house. We love to break bread and share life with our friends. And we have been doing it with a kitchen that needed remodeling but no one seemed to mind. They weren't coming for our cabinets or floors or counter tops. They came because they felt welcomed. They came to break bread and share life.
Thank you, dear friend, for reminding me. We will have a beautiful new kitchen but that's not why people will come.

That reminds me of that old saying which goes something like this:
If you're coming to see me, come any time. If you're coming to see my house, make an appointment.
When our kitchen/house was in the worst of remodel mode, we had fun inviting friends over to the "Hard Hat Cafe" and used caution tape, measuring tapes, nails, etc as our table centerpiece. It was fun and lightened my stress at having friends see our house in a construction mess.
Your kitchen looks great already and with your decorative touches it will be wonderful when you're finish! Not to worry...
