Road Trip - Arizona Thanksgiving
I never get tired of trips to the desert. It's a fascinating place but this time my focus wasn't on the desert as much as it was on being there because that's where everyone else was; the annual, early, family Thanksgiving. Spread out in different locations, we came together in Arizona to eat (constantly) and just hang out with each other.
If you blindfolded me and didn't tell me where we were going, I would know where we weren't just by the lack of toilet seat covers in the bathrooms. I take their presence for granted, so it's actually shocking when they are missing in public facilities, especially airport bathrooms. Exposing myself to bare toilet seats seems soooo uncivilized and a bit of a health risk.
Of course, any American plumbing beats some of the plumbing, or lack thereof, I've seen in other parts of the world. I always wondered why some tourists were enraptured by our facilities until I saw a few of their own. I have to tell you that paperless toilet seats in Arizona are still far superior in every way to toilet holes in Turkey or archaic facilities in "old town" Rome.
So this early Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my bathroom and for most all the bathrooms I have encountered in my U.S. travels. Some may be fancier than others, some even cleaner than others, but my hat is off to American bathrooms.
Lord, thank You for nice bathrooms. I take them for granted and am always humbled when I travel to places with unsanitary conditions. I thank You for cleaning products and toilet seat covers that keep these bathrooms healthy and safe to use. I thank You for the people who clean bathrooms, too. Amen.
