Green.
The color of emeralds, of jade, of watermelon tourmaline.
Green.
The color of swamps and bogs and frogs.
Green.
Rejuvenating. Restful. Refreshing.
Green.
The color that has come to define my new kitchen.
It's not a color that came readily to mind when I was designing the kitchen. It came slowly from the choices I made in cabinets, counter top and floor. Even when I realized that green was creeping in, I fought it thinking that it wasn't vibrant or cheerful enough. And then I could no longer resist. Green would be the defining color in both the glass tile back splash and on the wall.
What I find amusing is that once I surrendered to green, I suddenly realized how it was woven into the color scheme of my entire house. How could I not see the green chairs, green shower curtain, green throw rugs, green comforter, and yes, an entire back courtyard dominated by green. It's funny how what is in front of our eyes is often missed while we search far and yonder for the very thing that is already there.
So green it is ~ but not without a yellow companion and a shot or two of red. I couldn't completely surrender to green. It's not in my nature (although nature is the very thing that I crave.)

My son told me that our kitchen reminds him of nature ~ of rocks, of earth, of grass and trees. It has a Zen-like feel. Hmm, guess I succeeded in creating the effect I wanted. Who would have thought a kitchen could be so refreshing and feed not just the body but the soul?
Share the photos - I feel like it's MY new kitchen after following the story! The glass tile sounds so pretty! And green! LOL
