Joy it Is

I'm beginning to accumulate more evidence that joy is, indeed, my word for 2011.  As I stood looking at my reflection in the mirror, ready to embark on a pity party over a cold that walked in my door on New Year's day and chose me as its host ~ the word joy popped into my head.   Now joy is not normally a word that I would associate with illness of any sort, but I found myself asking, "what is the joy in my circumstances?"  And meaning it.  Really?

Well, my cold slows me down and gives me more of what I really cherish this time of year ~ more time to remain off the grid before I enter the busyness of everyday life.  No expectations.  No plans.  I find joy in that gift of extra time.

Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything. (James 1:2-4)
