Book Gizmo

For the record, I'm a huge fan of books.  I love reading them; I love the tactile feeling of holding one and turning the pages; I like discussing books; I like the way they look on a shelf.  So if you would have told me that I would be buying one of those high-tech gizmos to read from, well, I would have laughed and replied, "Not me!"

I must confess, however, that my curiosity of late has been equal to my staunch desire to deal only with "real" books.  In fact, last night, after mild research into the options available, I purchased a Barnes & Noble Nook.  It has full color and allows me to not just read books but to access the web and other applications.  I'm still not completely sold but have 14 days to use and decide.

The sales woman was good. I told her I just can't imagine a book that I can't touch and smell the pages, write all over and place lovingly on my shelf.  She said that she, too, is an avid reader and lover of books.  She confessed that she would never get rid of her current in-home library but since she has known her e-books as nothing other than e-books, she doesn't associate them with the "real" thing.  We'll see.  I'll keep you posted.
