We had a kitchen incident that could have turned out much worse than it did. My husband turned on a burner under an empty pan. He didn't realize he had done it. No, it's not mental impairment, it's over-loaded impairment. He had rushed to the stove to turn off my whistling teapot and in his distracted state of mind, somehow turned off one burner and turned on the other.
A burning smell drove me into the kitchen where I saw a red hot electric coil literally melting the bottom of the metal pan. As I pulled the pan off the burner, it left drops of liquid metal behind. Once the pan was safely outside, upside down on the concrete sidewalk to cool off, I went back inside to survey the damage. Yep, we would need two new coils as they were now covered in metal blobs that had hardened onto their surface.
My husband was horrified at his error but I was thankful that we were home and averted a potential house fire. It really made me stop and think. We sometimes get so overloaded with "doing" that our minds are always someplace else. My husband is not a ditz. He is not absent minded. He's on overload and it's time to re-revisit his "yes's." You know, all the things we say "yes" to without first praying on it, let alone looking at our life and asking if it's an appropriate fit for the "now." Time for him to re-visit his "yes's." While he's at it, I think I'll re-visit mine, too.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. ~ Ecc 3:1
The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace. ~ Psalm 29:11
May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels. ~ Psalm 122:7
