An Encounter

The four of us went to the art festival with no expectations other than enjoying each other's company and possibly a nice meal. We knew the venue would be lovely since it was held in the "old town" section with its approachable architecture and abundant restaurants. We knew we would bask in sunshine since the weather report was totally in our favor. We knew we would be entertained by the contents of white booths that dotted the streets. We even knew we would feel like kids escaping any thought of chores or responsibilities. All in all, we knew we would be having a delightful afternoon. What we didn't know was the encounter we would have.

Among the photographs and paintings, we came across an oasis of images that pulled us in and tugged at our emotions. Nzalamba Art Works. A mouthful of a name. We didn't notice. Our eyes locked onto the framed colors swirling on the walls with great freedom and purpose. The images alone were enticing but the stories they represented cinched the deal.

Each one told a tale of human relationships ~ husband and wife, mother and child, siblings, friends, tribes ~ at different levels and with different meanings. They spoke to the human condition and of the human heart. They spoke to us. And we could not leave them behind.

It's not where will I hang "it." Where will I hang all three of them? I think over our bed as they are about couples and families. Ted bought four of them! She's giving one on motherhood to Lady Bug's mommy. :-)
