Different Kind of Ordinary

Road Trip ~ Desert Lessons continued

Twenty-two years ago my (then) eight-year old son and I wrote a poem about these very windmills. It was our first trip to Joshua Tree and we were inspired by their unexpected presence near Palm Springs off I-10. What follows is the poem we wrote. It was a different way of looking at something that had been made for an ordinary purpose but seemed very extraordinary and majestic to us.

All the little soldiers standing in a row,
Waiting, waiting patiently for the wind to blow.
Standing with their heads proudly in the sky,
Hoping that one day soon they will learn to fly.
