Family ~ A Deeper Bond

family (n) 1. the most distinctive, fundamental social group in mankind, especially the union of two people through marriage. 2. one's spouse and children 3.  persons related by blood or marriage; relatives; kinfolk. 4. lineage. 5. all the members of a household.  6a.  a group of like things.  6b. a special or particular world of something; kingdom; fellowship .....(The American Heritage Dictionary)

My mind is on family.  I keep thinking about the wedding I attended on Friday.  Gathering  together to celebrate the beginning of a new covenant.  And while certainly, it is a blending of biological families, it is also the uniting of an extended family of friends.

The Groovies and their Grasshopper husbands are one such family.  United by our bond of friendship, we gathered together on Friday to celebrate as if the betrothed couple was one of our own.  It's number six from the dictionary definition of family.  I know that I can count on this group of people for fellowship, fun, support, honesty and an extra pair of hands to help out.

I really, really like these people but there is an even deeper bond.  Definition six refers to family as a kingdom.  We belong to the kingdom of God.  Each of us has accepted Christ as our Savior and share a bond through Truth that exceeds any worldly bonds.  We stand firm on that Truth as our life guide, our love guide.  It's an incredible family to belong to.

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name"  (John 1:12)

"Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!"  (1 John 3:1)
