Lessons from the Garden continued
It occurred to me that before I embark any further on my journey of kitchen lessons, I should recap lessons learned from the garden. So while you can read the entire journey under the label Lessons from the Garden (see right column of this blog), I thought it would be fun to take a brief photo "walk" through time.
First, a reminder why the entire front yard and driveway needed a re-do ~ a misdirected root that was making it's way under our garage and lifting the concrete pad. Let's begin.
- a totally beautiful, 35-year-old liquid amber that had no business being planted in my front yard yet it took me 2 years to agree to kill it ...
- to get to the root we needed to tear out the concrete driveway...
- the offending root...
- new driveway emerging, shunning concrete slabs for more elegant pavers
- the tree is gone ~ view from our front door
- the following autumn we wiped the slate clean and began anew with the garden
- a new wall rises
- a new tree is planted ~ a Chinese pistache, more suited to the site and still offering shade (some day)
- a new deck to replace the old
- a water feature where there was none before
- rebuilding the fence
- plants begin arriving
- looking like a new garden
- view from the front door
Tomorrow I will blog on what I learned.
