road trip continued - Goat Rock beach
We left the hot sunshine of Pleasanton and headed toward the coast with great anticipation. While the fog has been heavy all summer, daily it has faithfully retreated to its holding position over the ocean until evening. This being California, however, we did bring jackets and sweatpants to put on over shorts and t-shirts in the event that the fog did not fully cooperate. And our spirits were high as we drove through Petaluma and out Highway One toward Bodega Bay.
But fog greeted us as we descended out of the hills down to the shoreline. Nonplused, we drove to Jenner where the fresh water of the Russian River empties into the salt water of the Pacific Ocean. And there, we spent a wonderful afternoon at Goat Rock Beach. With our warm clothes on and our cameras in hand, we strolled the sands and soaked in the beauty of God's handiwork.
It didn't matter that the sun was behind a blanket of gray; we were at a sacred spot where the water kisses the land. While we didn't experience blue water and sky, is this scene any less beautiful?
