road trip continued - Goat Rock Beach
The dreariness of the day may have stopped us from going in the water, but kids don't pay attention to those things. They see the waves lapping the shore and think, "We're gonna have some fun!" We sat watching them, safely ensconced on a dry rock at water's edge, vicariously enjoying their fun from afar and secretly wishing we had the courage to have as much fun. (And a parent nearby who was going to strip us of our wet things and wrap us in a warm blanket when we were done.
It struck us as we watched those little girls that their courage and their fun came from a shared experience. Together they braved the waves and ignored the cold. Together they accomplished what perhaps one could not, once again pointing out the beauty of living in community and fellowship with one another.
