"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)
Today marks the start of a three day weekend; a weekend celebrating the working men and women of our country without whom our economy would collapse. This is a bittersweet weekend as the unemployment rates remain stubbornly high, to the point where some are losing their homes and worried about feeding their families.
So this weekend, while the holiday officially celebrates those who are working, I honor the many unemployed who continue to have hope that their situation will soon turn around. And I pray for those who have lost hope that they will find renewed optimism. I pray that all the unemployed will cast their burdens on Christ because His shoulders are strong enough to carry their burden.
Lord God, I ask for employment relief for those who have been seeking jobs. I ask for a renewed confidence that they either already have the skills or can develop the skills needed for their new future. I ask that they willingly release their burden to You and place their hope in You.
