Perfection and Compromise

Lessons from the Kitchen

All is well today except for the cornice.  My heart's desire was a Euro-influenced kitchen.  Straight forward design.  Clean lines.  Modern art.

My walls and ceiling did not cooperate.  Not perfect. Uneven.  Flawed.

That's where the cornice comes in.  Once the upper cabinets were hung it was very clear that they were straight but the room wasn't.  When installed, the cornice hides the imperfection.  A neat, clean and easy solution to a simple but annoying problem.

So my uber-clean Euro lines have been compromised.   I had to say yes to the cornice.  Another lesson in the pursuit of perfection versus the reality of life.

I suppose I could have stuck to my guns.  It would have meant a lot of expense and time to reconfigure the cabinet and wall/ceiling thing in my pursuit of perfection.  It's okay.  I'll adjust. Perfection is highly overrated any way.

Reminds me of our Pleasanton house - they had to build the whole staircase at an angle because the wall wasn't square! The cornices are good, they'll hide the dust! Looking good, can't wait to see the rest!
