Break Free...
Avoid the Mainstream (People Get Lost in There)
These words are the blaring headline of a magazine advertisement for an unidentified, yet-to-be-announced product. Accompanied by the fuzzy image of a camel in the background, I have a feeling this mystery item is being produced by R.J. Reynolds tobacco, especially since there is a large warning at the bottom of the page declaring that this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes. It's anyone's guess why a smoker would jump from one unsafe product to another, so the attraction of this advertisement is beyond me.
Break Free...
Avoid the Mainstream (People Get Lost in There)
If I frame these words from a Biblical perspective, then they have all the meaning in the world to me. Breaking free means accepting the freedom in Christ to break free of my unhealthy ways (or using a highly unpopular term, of my sin). Avoiding the mainstream means living in this world, but not getting sucked into the world's ways. People get lost in there means that living as the world lives is death not life.
I know that this kind of truth isn't for everyone; it even makes some people very, very uncomfortable just reading these words. I apologize if I offend anyone, but if I'm going to break free and avoid getting lost, then talking, writing or living in a politically correct manner is meaningless to me. It is God's view, not the world's, that is the standard I want to follow.
