Chinese Water Torture

Lessons from the Garden ~ Back Yard Remodel

Drip.  Drip.  Drip.  Not a soft drip.  Not an intermediate drip.  A steady, metallic drip from my new roof down into my new rain spouts.  The good news ~ the roof is sealed tight, virtually waterproof.  The unsettling news ~ this wonderful roof doesn't even absorb the dew that collects overnight.  Instead, it faithfully directs and encourages those lovely little droplets to work their way over to the spout and off the edge ~ hitting the L-shaped curve in the drain pipes with a loud "thunk, thunk, thunk."  Well, not really that loud when the world is awake.  But wake-me-up-loud in the early morning when I'm not quite awake but preparing for re-entry.  And then I hear it.  Drip.  Drip.  Drip. Drip.  Drip.  A nice, steady cadence.  Like Chinese water torture.

I can't imagine what it will sound like during our rainy season!  I guess the sound I will have to concentrate on then is the silence of our dollar bills sitting in our wallet instead of steadily marching to the tune of roof repairs.  Hey, that drip, drip, drip doesn't sound so bad after all!
