Homelessness is a tough issue, one that makes many of us turn away and pretend it does not exist despite the evidence in front of our very own eyes. For those of us who are willing to step out of our comfort zone and seek help for someone living on the streets, it's a real shock if we discover that person might not want help. For those of us tucked away in our nice homes in our nice neighborhoods, it is unfathomable someone would refuse a hot shower, a meal, any necessary medical treatment and a warm bed in a safe place. But some do, for their own reasons, and we cannot force them to accept help.
Just like God does not force us to get off the street paved with our own self-destructive behavior and to seek shelter under the goodness of who He is. If we prefer, instead, to write our own rules and drive our own destiny , even it that means living in the squalor of our pitiful decisions, He graciously allows us the freedom to do so. And that's what I love about my God. He does not demand that I accept the safety of His provision. He not only lovingly makes the offer and lets me decide, but it's an offer that never expires.
And while nothing is unfathomable to God, He does grieve when we choose our world over His because He knows how much richer off we would be if we accepted His offer.
