Road Trip ~ eastern Sierras
In this day and age of instant and ever-present communication, it was an interesting and even pleasurable experience being "out of touch" for several days on our trip. We had been forewarned that most of Death Valley was a null and void for mobile/internet service of any kind, but it was still kind of eerie realizing just how much we came to rely on, and entertain ourselves with, our technical communication toys.
There was actually one spot at Furnace Creek where the reception was feeble but did allow for some contact with the outside world. It was kind of funny and sad to watch (mostly) men huddle around their phones making fervent calls to the office, ending their conversations with, "I'm going to be out of touch for a couple of days so..." Heaven forbid the world stops revolving because we are going to be out of touch for a couple of days. Having said that, I must sheepishly confess that we did check our email, post a word or two on Facebook and let family know we were still alive and well.
All this to say that my blog posts came to a screeching halt because I couldn't access my blog! So while I happen to have already returned, I will continue sharing my lovely adventure with you over the next couple of days.
