Tufa not Tofu

Road Trip ~ Eastern Sierras ~ Mono Lake

Surreal.  Breathtaking.  A must-see to add to your bucket list.  The time of year doesn't matter. Just go

You will experience majestic mountains.  Volcanic craters.  A fascinating ecosystem.  An inland, salt-saturated ancient lake.  Tufas that arise from the lakeside like creatures from outer space.

While the tufas are spectacular and eerie, they stand as monoliths to the eternal battle between man and nature.  Who has the "right" to this water ~ the creatures who inhabit the lake basin or the millions of Angelinos living 6 hours away?  It's a complex answer to a seemingly simple question.
